Doonies farm is owned by Aberdeen City Council, due to council budget savings it has been earmarked for closure.
Doonies costs only £100 000 per year to run, which is a small saving in a cost cutting exercise of £27 million.
It is home to 23 rare breeds in conjunction with the Rare breeds Survival trust, with 300 animals in total.
It is very important that this wonderful place is saved. It is open to the public and is a fantastic place to visit for both adults and children. Read some of the comments written on the online petition.
The animals are scheduled to be auctioned in May 2008 at the Thainstone Agricultural Centre. Although not specifically sold for slaughter, they will be sold to the highest bidder and inevitably some of these animals will end up being slaughtered.
The Rare Breeds Survival Trust are having a public meeting at 19:00 on the 13 March in the Thistle Hotel in Altens, to discuss options for the farm's future. Please come and lend your support to this worthy cause.
